Modern Vietnam rises through resilience and shared prosperity
Every contribution — a story, an hour, a partnership — strengthens the network across Southeast Asia.
Vietnam stretches across 331,212 square kilometres along the eastern Indochinese Peninsula, with a population of roughly 100 million people distributed between the Red River Delta around Hanoi and the Mekong Delta in the south. UNData records Vietnam's rapid demographic transition, with fertility now at replacement level and life expectancy above 75 years. Vietnamese is the sole official language, written in the Latin-based quoc ngu script introduced in the early twentieth century. The political capital Hanoi and the commercial capital Ho Chi Minh City anchor a fast-growing economy that has lifted tens of millions out of poverty since Doi Moi reforms in 1986. Exports of electronics, textiles, footwear, coffee, and rice have made Vietnam one of the most dynamic emerging markets globally. Vietnam is a member of ASEAN, APEC, and CPTPP and plays an active role in regional supply chains and climate diplomacy. Civil society operates within state-defined boundaries, with labour unions, women's unions, and youth organisations coordinating much of the formal solidarity work alongside international NGOs. Opportunities for solidarity include climate adaptation in the Mekong Delta, support for Agent Orange survivors, ethnic minority education in the northern highlands, and humanitarian work in disaster-prone central provinces.
