Food Security across Kingdom of Cambodia

Sustainable fisheries, smallholder agriculture, and food sovereignty.

ASEAN's food systems support over 650 million people across vastly different contexts: Tonle Sap fishing communities, Gulf of Thailand coastal villages, Mekong Delta rice farmers, Borneo hill rice cultivators, and Philippine coconut smallholders. Food security solidarity spans sustainable fisheries (fighting illegal fishing, supporting small-scale fishers), smallholder agriculture (climate-smart practices, fair-trade certification, direct trade), nutrition (school meal programmes, fortification), and food sovereignty movements led by farmers and Indigenous communities. Climate change is the dominant threat: saltwater intrusion in the Mekong Delta, typhoon damage to Philippine and Vietnamese rice fields, and erratic monsoons across the region. Solidarity efforts fund farmer cooperatives and support climate-resilient crop varieties.
