The world's largest archipelago leads ASEAN solidarity by example
Every contribution — a story, an hour, a partnership — strengthens the network across Southeast Asia.
Typhoon response, flood recovery, AHA Centre coordination, and preparedness drills.
ASEAN sits along the Pacific Ring of Fire and the Western Pacific typhoon belt, exposing most of its population to earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons, and seasonal flooding. Disaster solidarity is institutionalised: the AHA Centre in Jakarta coordinates cross-border response, the Philippine Red Cross and Malaysian Red Crescent deploy trained volunteers regionally, and Singapore's Mercy Relief operates ASEAN-wide. Disaster relief work covers preparedness drills, immediate search and rescue, shelter and medical care, and long recovery including mental health support. The Mekong region faces chronic flooding while the Philippines and Vietnam face annual typhoons. Solidarity efforts fund emergency supplies, train community responders, support demining, and back regional coordination bodies.
